[It perhaps is no surprise that Revali seeks the higher spots of the courtyard to be at -- it's easier to look around when you're up there! And he has excellent eyesight, so that helps a lot!

Alas, his best efforts are doomed to fail. Better wait for the trial, Revali]

Guess we should have known anything going wrong in this town would affect us all at some point. We got careless.

[There was no reason to think they were safe! The foreboding feelings and the oddities should have been enough of a hint danger was coming, but instead they got too comfortable. Now someone in their number probably is dead.

This feels like a failure of some sort, really]

Something!

[Revali raises his voice with that word]

Just something that could have prevented this somehow.

[In retrospect to him it feels like there were warning signs and he didn't notice. As someone who did say to others he'd help keep people safe, this is a pretty big failure]

Not that I can think of a plan we could have used. Now that one of our number may have been killed by whatever's going on in this town, all that remains is to try to stop it from happening again. But how?

[He's a warrior, not a tactician. Apparently he kind of wonders if Rex perhaps does have some brilliant idea that'd make sure nobody else goes missing in the future, as if it was that easy to come up with a good plan]

[Well that sounds like a reasonable enough plan, if incredibly broad. But right now? It's all they have. All Revali can do is nod]

Those Watchers owe us all some explanations. Relying on them for information feels wrong, but they're the only ones who could know anything about last night -- unless something happened to them too.

[They have been giving no response to the bottles, after all! It could be they disappeared as well]

Truthfully I had expected a bunch of lowly dramatic, evil prophets or something along those lines. The Watchers and their bumbling are far from what you'd expect from people who got us all here for some sort of obscure scheme.

[Not that Revali trusts them at all just because they seem more harmless than he had ever expected. Still...that they're harmless-looking could mean they may be in danger right now]

[To say the least. There's Revali, trying not to make even more of a mess in this disaster zone]

I didn't even know the dead guy, but I have no doubts he didn't deserve any of what happened to him.

[He was so unlucky he got assigned a room with the worst person ever, that was all Marius did wrong. But yeah! Justice! That has to count for something!]

[You know what Revali doesn't like much about the daemons? That Medli just insists to be more open than he is. It's like his soul is trying to force him to reach out to others even though he's not interested in it. Rex is no exception.

Medli shouldn't be running around with a piece of glass in her jaws, taking advantage of Revali knowing he'd be in pain if she gets too far away to make him pursue her. Where to, though? To the nearest person, apparently! There's a honey badger with glass, running to Rex and pretty much tossing the glass shard at him. Catch!]

[What the heck, indeed. It takes no more than a touch to the shard for everything to begin changing, everything turning into night, the surroundings transforming into what seems to be some place high on the sky. There's the constant murmur of something very big and very mechanical, a subtle rumbling coming from under Rex -- undoubtedly the feeling of powerful engines. There even is the noise of rotors somewhere nearby. Looks like this location is a gigantic flying machine of some sort.

A pulsing...contraption is nearby, pulsing with a malicious energy. Takes no more than a look to see it's bad news. Where's the person you're looking from, though? Even though you're obviously on someone's point of view, there doesn't seem to be a body. It's like a disembodied conscience, watching on this place.

Doesn't take long for one young man to appear. A knight, apparently. The blight having taken over this machine appears. Only takes one look that's one powerful abomination! Until finally, one voice -- voice Rex probably already knows well -- echoes all over the place: Revali's voice. There's not that much sound, but the things he manages to hear are meaningful enough:

'It defeated me one hundred years ago...' and 'You must avenge me, Link!'

Connecting the dots perhaps isn't the easiest thing to do, but if Rex manages to do so, perhaps he'll realize a certain bird, despite all his -- admittedly well deserved -- bluster and arrogance, got killed in battle a century ago. No wonder he was some disembodied conscience in that memory. Seems the memory ends before the fight between that knight and the scourge begins for real.

Once the memory vanishes, there's Revali, standing very much alive in frotn of Rex. He knows it's too late, Rex saw a memory. Frustrated, he just asks, although it seems he's kind of dreading the response, perhaps already having an idea which memory this was]

What? What did you see?

[At the question Revali just...facepalms. Great! Just great! Thanks a lot, Medli, can you stop informing people about that by using like four different sort of memories?

He just hopes the one Rex got wasn't one that involved Revali eating humble pie. It's bad enough the secret about he having been dead before coming here is leaking left and right, it's worse when the memories also include him goddamn humbled even if it's a little bit!]

So what? Is there any problem with me being dead? I'm alive now!

[Death sucks and he doesn't recommend it, 0/10]

[Many would think Revali is completely uncaring about what other people feel. He's not blind to other people's emotions and feelings. What use is that if you don't really act on it in a meaningful way, though?

Still, despite everything, he has nothing against anybody in this graveyard other than Suigetsu and Qi Rong. No reason to just turn around without a word if he sees someone looking like they're having a terrible time. Rex here, hm...

...well, being huddled in a corner and staring into space perhaps isn't a good sign. Revali had already noticed something was off about him and his memory. How not to notice? Revali saw him, turned around to perhaps leave, changed his mind, and just...said, trying to seem a tad casual:]

You don't look too good.

[Perceived indeed! Revali sighs]

Sure you are. You look exactly like someone who is fine!

[It's not often he uses sarcasm. The transparent denial really must have bothered him]

Look, I'm not trying to pressure you here, but it's obvious you're not fine. You probably haven't been fine for a while.

Yes. Pretty much.

[Wow, that's a lot of baggage. When put like that, Revali can't blame Rex for huddling into a corner]

You weren't doing nearly as badly on the other side.

[Well, the big difference is that Rex was alive and now he's dead, and that's just a huge thing to deal with. Still, from what Revali could see -- which, to be fair, was probably far less than others, since he wasn't all that close to Rex -- this kid had things mostly together, unlike now]

Does it matter?

[Said a tad too dismissively. Geez, someone clearly is not equipped to deal with someone having a
existential crisis. Apparently Revali realizes saying that wasn't the best thing to do, because he shakes his head and says something else]

You're hardly the first one I see with any sort of memory problems and an overwhelming task to handle. Listen here for a moment, will you?

[Well, equipped or not, he's trying, apparently]

I knew someone who woke up after a century of recovery after...something happened. I don't know all the details, but I do know they woke up with no memories at all. Probably just his name and muscle memory telling him how to handle swords. There were only four or five people in the entire world who knew him.

I suppose at some point he found out he had to defeat the source of the blight that threatened to destroy everything. I doubt he was ever given any option. He had to.

[Imagine that, Rex. You wake up after a century of convalescence, without even clothes to your name, and find out you have to save the kingdom or else everything will die -- and that's without taking into account they almost died 100 years ago and all. It must have been pretty harrowing!]

Somehow, even though he had nothing at the start, he managed to go on and do things I couldn't do. I hate to admit it. He did it all, and during most of that I doubt he even knew anything about himself. Not that I'd know for sure; he's as expressive as a rock. Hmph. I could never tell what was going on in his head.

[Revali shrugs]

In a way you're reminding me of him. You have your strange technology with your hands, you don't know anything, and we're all a bunch of strangers you probably won't trust ever in your life. Fine. But as I see it, if some guy who probably went around hitting things with branches and jumping off cliffs managed to overcome everything, then you can too. There's no way you're below him.

[Honestly it's pretty fucking ridiculous Revali is setting the bar at the level of goddamn Link and expects Rex to reach it just like that. Truthfully, that just says a lot more about how little he thinks of Link than how well he thinks of Rex, even though by now Revali acknowledges Link is a worthy warrior.

Still, he's trying to make a point, apparently]

To save yourself you'll have to overcome all this about angels and bombs. And once that's done, you'll be free to focus on yourself and solve whatever's happening to your memory. There's not really a choice here.

[...]

You don't have to do it all by yourself. We're all in the same flock here. You don't need to like us to work with us. Think of it as a way to ensure your future first and foremost, and once this is all over, you'll have all the time in the world to figure out what's wrong with you.

[Can't fight angels and work towards this goal if you're huddled in some house clutching your head having a breakdown! Save that for after the angels are defeated!]

[...he realizes he lacks critical information:]

What are you all called?

[It's been more than a month and I don't think Revali has been informed about humans in all this time]

Person? That's...more straightforward and obvious than I expected.

[He resumes his complaining:]

I don't go around calling attention to your personity, or whatever conjugation is the right one here.

[He shakes his head, bothered by how he just used a word that doesn't exist, but hey: if these people are called 'person', then alright, 'personity' must be the word referring to their race as a whole, he supposes.

Nothing like he unintentionally making a fool of himself]

Is nitpicking your way of coping or are you trying to be infuriating on purpose?

[He says that but without any bite because he's filing that down for future use. So all these people are known as persons and they have personhood. Alright, that'll do]
