You underestimate them both. I know van Zieks is an extremely respectable guy. He'd listen to your reasoning first. As far as Sholmes... I think you'd be really surprised, if you talked to him about this.

I'd ask you to do this as a personal favor for me, but... Just don't be surprised if it accidentally comes out some day when you least expect. I mean, you can manipulate people's emotions, why would that be safe?
