[ He shakes his head. It doesn't really matter what he said, honestly. But more importantly...he pauses, trying to figure out how to mime his thoughts in a way that'll be coherent.
He points to Kotetsu with one hand and mimes talking with the other. Then he points to his own head and twirls his finger. He then...starts grasping at the air like he's hauling a huge bundle of blankets out of a closet and pulls it in towards his chest, feeling incredibly stupid while doing it, and follows it up with both his arms crossed in front of him, head shaking.
What you just said is crazy. "Back to ourselves" won't work. ]
[ He reaches over and taps the spot at his heart lightly. ]
You're still here. We can still send notes. Even if you're not with us directly, I believe we can get you back. Fix what's wrong with this. I don't want you giving up hope on that.
He repeats the gesture pointing back and forth between them again, but this time uses one hand to mime talking again. Then he throws both thumbs over one of his shoulders, pointing behind him, pairing it with an inquisitive look. We've talked in the past? ]
He holds up his hand with his index finger and thumb close together, almost touching. Remember just a little. And then after a second of consideration, he draws a finger across his neck and sticks out his tongue, miming death, and then taps his temple again. He remembers his death, at least. ]
[ His eyes go wide. For a moment he steps forward, but stops. If Rex doesn't remember him... he... he shouldn't hug him. So instead, he just tightens his fists at his sides. ]
Even if you don't remember me, I remember you. I... I'll make it right. Please try to have faith in me, Rex. Don't give up believing that.
[ Rex looks...profoundly uncomfortable, even if he isn't being hugged. The thought that someone knows him, probably better than he knows himself at this point...it feels wrong. What does this man supposedly remember of him? What is their relationship even supposed to be?
He looks earnest, but looks can be deceiving.
Rex pulls his mask up to reveal his full face for a moment, because he knows he has no way of communicating this through charades, and if he has to get this across by expression alone, he needs this man to fully see it: the skepticism, the doubt, the wariness. (the fear.)
[ hi i abandoned this tag for a day because i don't know what to do with this and neither does rex.
It feels too...nice. Too genuine. Why would this random man believe in him, in this den of vipers? When Rex doesn't know his motivations (and maybe didn't know them before, either), and when Kotetsu doesn't know his. It's too good to be true, right?
He just. Angles back, takes half a step backwards, face even warier now. ]
[ He still doesn't understand why Kotetsu cares so much about some dead stranger to the point of "not wanting to lose him for good." It makes him wonder just what the hell they talked about before--how much, how deeply--and it feels like a yawning empty gap.
It's terrifying.
But at least they can agree on one thing: that they don't want Rex to...die, or double-die, or disappear, or whatever. So. He'll give Kotetsu a slow, wary nod and then start backing away slowly. ]

But his head tilts a little, trying to figure out what he's saying. ]

Me... talking... crazy? Pulling... toward you... Not going to happen?
[ He mouths those words, trying to figure what it was that he exactly said. ]
You don't think we'll be back to ourselves...?

Anyway, Rex will point to Kotetsu and then shrug. Then he points to himself and repeats the arms crossing motion.
You, maybe. Me, definitely not. ]
no subject
Me... maybe? You... no?
[ He furrows his brow at that. ]
I believe we can get you back, Rex.

He draws a giant question mark in the air with his hand. Why? ]

He points a finger back and forth between his own heart and Kotetsu's. You know me? ]
no subject
Heart to heart?? Hm. [ This one's a little lost on him. ]

[ Hmmm... ]
Behind.. before...?
Yeah, we've talked before.

I don't remember. ]

Head... nothing...
Head... empt--
Remember? What don't you remember?
no subject
Gestures widely to...well, the world at large. Everything.
Which...isn't really 100% true, but Rex doesn't know how to communicate in fuller detail through charades. This is close enough. ]
no subject
That... Do you remember anyone here? Or is everything gone?

Why should I trust you? ]

I don't want you to disappear. I know it's hard to believe someone you don't remember, but I believed in you. I still believe in you. But... please.

Actions speak louder than words, right?
[ He rubs his neck, sighing. ]
I guess... All I can ask is... Hang in there, okay? We don't want to lose you for good.

Well. I hope to see you around.
